This site is intended to be a compendium of information, helpful hints, and answers to FAQs not covered in the Grad Academic Manual that should be helpful to first year graduate students (and beyond). It is really in no particular order. It is meant to be like the Prelim Guide - that is, you do your part for the people who come after you by keeping it current and passing it on. Please feel free to make suggestions, additions, updates, or changes and pass it along to next year's class of entering students. Ideally, it could be passed on to the students once they accept the offer from MSE.

Once you get to Berkeley, there are a few things that you will need to do, including getting housing, opening a bank account, getting a California drivers license and registering for classes. After you settle in a little, you will soon learn about the quirks of campus, such as "Berkeley time", where to eat near the office

Some day you might even find that you are dangerously close to graduating.
